Migrate to Shopify · from Magento
Magento to Shopify migration, with every attribute set and .html URL mapped
Magento stores leave because of the upgrade cycle, the hosting stack and an extension bill that grows every year. We map configurable products, customer groups and the category tree to Shopify, rebuild every URL with a 301, test it all on a staging store, and switch over on a day you choose.

01Why merchants leave Magento
What Magento costs you that Shopify does not
- 01Every upgrade is a projectMagento 1 stopped receiving security patches in June 2020. Magento 2 ships quarterly releases, and each one can break the extensions and theme overrides underneath it, so stores budget developer weeks every year to stand still. Shopify updates the platform for you and apps update themselves.
- 02A hosting stack you have to runA Magento 2 store needs PHP, MySQL, Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, Redis, a cron and usually Varnish, tuned and patched by someone. Adobe Commerce on cloud takes some of that on, at an enterprise licence. Shopify includes hosting, the CDN and PCI compliance in the plan.
- 03Licensing and extension costs that scale with revenueAdobe Commerce is priced on your gross sales, and the extensions from Amasty, Mageplaza and Aheadworks that make it usable each carry a yearly support fee. Shopify Plus is a published monthly plan, and most of the equivalent features are built in.
- 04Speed that depends on indexers, caches and the themeLuma-based themes and uncached category pages push Magento past three seconds on mobile, and full-page cache invalidation after every product save is a known headache. Shopify’s CDN and Online Store 2.0 themes serve the same catalogue under two seconds with no cache layer for you to manage.
02What moves
Everything that comes across, and the catch for each
A Magento store is more than its products. This is the list we check off, record by record, before launch.
- Products and configurable productsConfigurable products become Shopify products and their simple children become the variants. Bundle and grouped products are rebuilt with Shopify Bundles or linked products.
- Attributes and attribute setsAttributes used for variants become options; the rest become metafields, with each attribute set defining which metafields that product type gets.
- CategoriesThe category tree becomes collections, with the hierarchy kept in the navigation menus and anchor categories reproduced as automated collections.
- Customers and customer groupsAccounts, addresses and group membership. Groups become customer tags, or companies and catalogues on Shopify Plus B2B. Passwords cannot move, so customers get an invite to set a new one.
- OrdersOrder history with line items, totals, statuses, invoices and credit memos mapped to Shopify orders and refunds, so customer service can look up anything from before the switch.
- ReviewsMagento native reviews or Yotpo, Judge.me and Amasty review data imported with ratings, author names and dates.
- CMS pages and blocksCMS pages become Shopify pages; static blocks and Page Builder content are rebuilt as theme sections or metaobjects your team can edit.
- Gift cards, store credit and reward pointsOutstanding gift card and store credit balances move on Shopify Plus. Reward point balances go into Smile.io or LoyaltyLion.

04How the migration runs
Five steps, with the old store trading the whole time
- 01Audit and planWe export the module list, the URL list from Search Console and the data counts per attribute set, and give you a written migration plan with a fixed price and a launch date.
- 02Build the Shopify storeTheme design and build on a staging store while Magento keeps trading. Each module that mattered gets a named Shopify app, Function or theme feature.
- 03Migrate and verify dataProducts, attributes, customers, orders, reviews and CMS content are imported, then checked record by record against the Magento exports.
- 04Redirects and SEOA full redirect map covering .html product URLs, category paths and layered-navigation URLs, meta titles and descriptions carried across, structured data rebuilt and the sitemap ready for Search Console.
- 05Launch and watchA final delta import of new orders and customers, then DNS switches on the day you choose. We watch Search Console, orders and error logs for the first weeks and fix anything the data flags.
05Magento traps
The things that go wrong when this migration is rushed
- 01.html URLs and category pathsMagento product URLs usually end in .html and categories nest as /men/jackets/, while Shopify uses /products/handle and /collections/handle. Every old URL gets a 301 to its new home, and we test the top pages from Search Console by hand before launch.
- 02More than three options per productShopify allows three options and 100 variants per product (2,048 on Plus). Configurable products built on four or more attributes, or with large size and colour grids, are restructured before import.
- 03Attribute sets hold data the export losesA plain product export flattens attribute sets, so the fields that made a jacket different from a lamp disappear. We export per attribute set and define the metafields first, then import.
- 04Modules nobody documentedA Magento store that has been live for years carries custom modules, observers and theme overrides that do real work at checkout or in pricing. We list every module and its purpose before quoting, so each one gets a Shopify app, a Function or a conscious decision to drop it.
