Migrate to Shopify · from PrestaShop
PrestaShop to Shopify migration, with combinations, groups and ID-based URLs mapped
PrestaShop stores leave because each version upgrade is a project, paid modules need yearly renewals, and the hosting and security sit with you. We move the catalogue, customer groups, order history and every ranking URL to Shopify, test it on a staging store, and switch over on a day you choose.

01Why merchants leave PrestaShop
What PrestaShop costs you that Shopify does not
- 01Every major version is its own migrationMoving from PrestaShop 1.6 to 1.7, or 1.7 to 8, means new theme templates and modules that need updated versions, and the 1-click upgrade module is known for stopping halfway. Stores stay on old versions to avoid it and lose security patches as a result. Shopify has no version to upgrade to.
- 02Modules with renewal feesThe modules that make PrestaShop usable (better filters, a blog, advanced promotions, marketplace connectors) are sold on PrestaShop Addons with yearly fees for updates and support. Shopify builds the blog, discounts, filters and sales channels into the platform.
- 03Hosting and security are your problemPrestaShop runs on your server, so PHP versions, SSL, backups and the module vulnerabilities that get exploited in bulk are yours to patch. Shopify hosts the store, handles PCI and takes a sale-day traffic spike without a server upgrade.
- 04Speed that depends on the server and the themeStock PrestaShop with a heavy theme and a dozen front-office modules lands past three seconds on mobile unless someone tunes caching and the database. Shopify’s CDN and Online Store 2.0 themes get the same page under two.
02What moves
Everything that comes across, and the catch for each
A PrestaShop store is more than its products. This is the list we check off, record by record, before launch.
- Products and combinationsCombinations become Shopify variants with their own price, stock, reference and image. Products with more than three attributes or 100 variants are split and linked.
- Features and attachmentsProduct features become metafields that feed filters; PDF attachments become file metafields shown on the product page.
- Categories, manufacturers and suppliersThe category tree becomes collections with the hierarchy in the menus. Manufacturers become the vendor field and a collection each; suppliers become metafields.
- Customers and groupsAccounts, addresses, newsletter consent and group membership. Groups with their own prices become B2B companies and catalogues on Shopify Plus, or customer tags. Passwords cannot move, so customers get an invite to set a new one.
- OrdersOrder history with line items, totals, carriers, order states and invoice numbers mapped to Shopify orders, so customer service can find anything from before the switch.
- Specific prices and cart rulesCatalogue price rules and specific prices become Shopify discounts or B2B catalogue prices; vouchers become discount codes.
- LanguagesProduct names, descriptions and URLs per language are imported into Translate & Adapt under one Shopify Market per language or country.
- CMS pages, reviews and blogCMS pages are rebuilt in the theme. Reviews from PrestaShop modules or Trusted Shops, Yotpo and Judge.me come across with ratings and dates. Blog posts from a blog module become Shopify articles.

04How the migration runs
Five steps, with the old store trading the whole time
- 01Audit and planWe export the module and override list, the URL list from Search Console per language and the data counts, and give you a written migration plan with a fixed price and a launch date.
- 02Build the Shopify storeTheme design and build on a staging store while PrestaShop keeps trading, with your design recreated or improved. Each module that mattered gets a named Shopify app, Function or theme feature.
- 03Migrate and verify dataProducts, combinations, customers, orders, reviews and content are imported per language, then checked record by record against the PrestaShop exports.
- 04Redirects and SEOA full redirect map from ID-based URLs in every language to the new ones, meta titles and descriptions carried across, structured data rebuilt and the sitemap ready for Search Console.
- 05Launch and watchA final delta import of new orders and customers, then DNS switches on the day you choose. We watch Search Console, orders and error logs for the first weeks and fix anything the data flags.
05PrestaShop traps
The things that go wrong when this migration is rushed
- 01IDs baked into URLsPrestaShop URLs default to /12-product-name.html and /3-category, and every language gets its own set. Shopify uses /products/handle and /collections/handle. Every old URL, in each language, gets a 301, and we test the top pages from Search Console by hand before launch.
- 02Prices with and without tax per groupPrestaShop shows prices with or without tax depending on the customer group, and stores specific prices per group, quantity and date range. We rebuild the matrix in B2B catalogues and discounts, and test the price as a guest, a retail customer and a trade customer before launch.
- 03Combinations that inherit from the parentA combination can override the parent’s price, weight and reference, or inherit them, and the export does not always say which. We resolve every value per combination before import, so every Shopify variant carries its own price, weight and SKU.
- 04Overrides and modules nobody remembersYears of /override/ classes and front-office modules do things at checkout and in pricing that nobody has written down. We list every module and override and what it does before quoting, and map each one to a Shopify app, a Function or a conscious decision to drop it.
